The screenplay is based on a true story about Fred Rogers, known as Mister Rogers, with small changes, but still very real. Fred is a TV personality running a popular TV show for children and journalist Tom Junod is assigned to make a profile of Mr. Rogers. This relationship between two grownup men will teach Tom (and us) about kindness, empathy and all the good things that life brings…

The movie is directed by Marielle Heller, well-known for movies The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015), Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) or hilarious MacGruber from 2010. It is written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, who were working together in other projects as TV Series Transparent (2014-2017) or movie Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019). The story is inspired by the article “Can You Say. . . Hero?” by Tom Junod.
